Tops in most expensive cities – Whither Singapore?
Protected June 28th, 2014 | Author: Contributions

Singapore is not short of accolades. We have the most expensive cars, the most expensive paper (COE), the most expensive president, the most expensive ministers, the most expensive prime minister and now, the crown jewel of this government’s quest to be the most expensive government in the world… the title of the most expensive city in the world! All these within a span of the last 10 years!

On a more serious note, the operative word of this Economist article is “city”, we have overtaken Tokyo, overtaken Paris and we are even ahead of Oslo. All these cities are within a larger country which means that companies and residents in Tokyo can relocate away from expensive Tokyo to the sprawling suburbs or neighboring towns or other counties of Japan, same for Paris or Oslo. But Singapore is a city state, how can we avoid expensive Singapore? Relocate from Holland Village to Toa Payoh Town?

There must be a serious malfunction in the government to miss such an obvious conclusion, after all the yearly charts provided by the Economist had shown Singapore hovering dangerously in the top band of expensive cities this last 10 years.

Now that we are the most expensive city in the world with no where to run, what next?

Is it possible for us to trust the PAP team, that brought us to this mess, to lead us out?

I think not. Singapore needs a new team, with new ideas, who are sincere and who are not distracted by expensive salaries.

MGBY
