SINGAPORE — On a two-day working visit to Indonesia that began today (Sept 28), Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen discussed the haze situation in Indonesia with his Indonesian counterpart and reiterated that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) was ready to support Indonesia’s haze mitigation efforts, if and when activated.

During his meeting with Indonesian Defence Minister General (Rtd) Ryamizard Ryacudu, the two ministers also reaffirmed the close and long standing bilateral defence relations between Indonesia and Singapore and discussed ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.

The details of the meeting were released in a statement by the Ministry of Defence today.

Singapore and Indonesia engage in regular professional exchanges and long standing bilateral exercises such as Exercise Elang Indopura, Exercise Safkar Indopura and Exercise Eagle Indopura.

As part of the visit, Dr Ng today called on Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs General (Rtd) Luhut Pandjaitan. He also inspected a Guard of Honour with Gen Ryacudu

"If they need more help... the SAF is always open to consider more help," said Dr Ng, who was speaking to The Straits Times a day after high-level talks in Jakarta. He said he made the offer again during his talks with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan and Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu on Monday.

"And both Pak Ryamizard and Pak Luhut thanked me for this offer and they understood that the offer is still open," he added.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has told Indonesia that Singapore still stands ready to offer assistance in putting out illegal forest fires that is causing the haze, but that it remains up to Jakarta to "activate our help". http://str.sg/Z2E3

What it means is that the Hen is willing to send you peasant-slave NS men to breath more smoke so that their pet foreign talent can enjoy clear skies once again.

The problem with the dumb 30% is that when they demand that the government do something about the haze, they don't realise that if the government finally does take action, it will be their asses in the firing line.

After all no minister is going to lead from the front. They'll simply send in the troops while the paper generals direct operations from the comfort of their climate controlled offices.

Joko joke when he says 3 years to fight haze. More like 300 years.

Joko said...well Mr. Hen as you know the haze has been around for 20 years...

Why don't for a start you return us some Usd$30 billion of our corrupt official money you hold in your Singapore bank.

Then we will have some money to start off with. And you are so many times richer than us.

You don't expect us to cough out our own money to help us to clean your air.. Don't you..??

It's only the "asses" of certain members of the SAF.
The "asses" of the VAST majority of BOTH the pro-PAP 70% and the anti-PAP 30% will still be INTACT. :p
