Upcoming Changes to Weebly’s Global Operations

We have made the difficult decision to wind down Weebly services in 67 countries by 2026-09-20 due to changes in regulation and to simplify our global operations.

What this means for customers in these countries

  • Your current Weebly site will remain active for 90-days, and then will be unpublished on 2026-09-27.
  • You will still have access to your Weebly account until 2026-12-26 to enable you to move your site, domains, and data to another service. After this date, you will no longer have login access to your Weebly account.
  • You will continue to have access to the essential features of the plan until 2026-09-27, but you will no longer be able to publish any new pages starting 2026-06-29.

What you should do

Before 2026-12-26:

  • Download your site content and data from Account Settings > My Data > Download My Data to migrate your content to another website provider or to retain it for your records. Once you’ve downloaded your data, you can also request that Weebly erase data and forget your account. If you wish to just download data from a specific site in your account, you may also do so from Website > Edit Site > Settings > Archive
  • Transfer your custom domain to another provider following the instructions below.

How to transfer your custom domain

If you'd like to move your domain name from Weebly to another registrar you can easily start the process from your Weebly Dashboard

There are a couple important points to note, though:

  • A domain name can not be transferred within 60 days from the registration date. This is not a Weebly policy, but a restriction put in place by ICANN.
  • When transferring your domain name, you must disable what's known as the registrar lock - disabling this is what will allow you to start the transfer, but it also disables Whois privacy protection if you have it enabled. You'll need to set up privacy protection again with your new registrar.
  • Due to ICANN policy, making changes to your registrant contact information (email, phone number, first/last name) will result in a 60 day registrar lock during which you will be unable to transfer your domain name.
  • Transferring to a new registrar means you will manage your domain name settings and renewals through another company, but you can still host your website with Weebly if you wish. You may also want to consider keeping your domain name with Weebly and setting it up to work with another host.
  • Domain name transfers work differently for ccTLD, or country-specific, domains (e.g. co.uk, .de, etc). If you bought a ccTLD through Weebly and would like to transfer out, please let our support team know and we can help you.

With that out of the way, let's look at how to unlock your domain and get your EPP code.

  1. From your Weebly Dashboard, navigate to Websites > Domains then click Manage > Manage Domain on the domain name you're planning to transfer.
  2. Disable the Registrar Lock toggle to get the EPP authorization code needed to transfer your domain to another provider. Copy the full authorization code below. Remember: changing any contact information for your domain will trigger a lock on your domain. Please wait until after you’ve transferred your domain before making any changes to your contact information.
  3. The rest of the transfer process will take place with your newly chosen registrar, so please refer to them for further instructions (they'll need that EPP code, too).

If you have a Google Workspace account, please contact us for help transferring your account directly to Google.

Yes, Square is pulling support in July. Yes, you can transfer your website. Some of the engineers from Weebly started Articulation Sites, and they say they can migrate Weebly sites over. They have a free plan, but the paid $10/month plan is needed to convert the site (although on one thread I saw the company offer to waive that for a nonprofit - not sure if that is an across-the-board thing or it was a one-off offer).

We’re happy to waive for registered non-profits, send me an email to [email protected] and I’ll set that up for you.

Weebly has been fucked up for the longest while since it was acquired by Square. Near non-existent tech support, crappy CMS, the list goes on....
