Dr Lam Pin Min( http://lampinmin.sg/), chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for health blames the higher demand for beds on the "sharp increase in the population over the past four to five years and the rapidly ageing population." He urged the ministry to to "look at its planning norm and philosophy" in the system to address both anticipated and unexpected demand surges in the future.
Like all good SPH spin stories, the final paragraph: One piece of good news is that work is underway on the construction of the 700-bed Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in Jurong. But the hospital will be ready in three years' time. The only missing quotable quote in the story "It can't be helped."
So, the FT policy was a surprise, and the even bigger surprise - there is a "rapidly" growing ageing population! Just like I have just realised that Christmas Day is in December, on the 25th. Such incompetence and bad planning means one thing - our ministers are no longer motivated by their $2million salaries.
