Watch this - Jeremy Lin

I hope this guy does well in the NBA in the long run. Well at least we know that Chinese guys can jump or to be politically correct Asians can jump, even those who went to Harvard without a basketball scholarship.

Lin's got stage presence, ample humility and good court sense. A good game

Linsanity. Not begrudging his skills and his slam dunks for Asians in NBA, but am I the only one who thinks this is all just a good staged publicity for the Knicks?

two points:

1) No doubt this guy is good but we must be wary of the hype machinery in American sports. The NBA has been losing popularity since Michael jordan retired and efforts to find a successor has been futile. I remember the hype generated over Shaq o'neal, Kobe o'brian and a couple of fresh drafts. All failed to lift NBA to it's former glory. The fact now is the NBA needs Jeremy Lin more than Jeremy Lin needs the NBA. He is the key to penetrating the Chinese market.

2) In 2005/6, a Taiwanese playing in the Dodgers became the toast of the MLB for some achievement. The China media reported it and he became an overnight people's hero among the sports crazy young chinese.

Then the Taiwanese media came to claim the player as their own son of the soil. He was Taiwanese, not Chinese. This sparked a furious internet debate for netizens on both sides of the straits. Of course it descended to the usual "running dog" insults and threats of war.

Ethnicity vs nationality is a really touchy discussion. I would like to see if this debate will be revived over Lin.

Jeremy Lin is probably my only reason to watch nba again after the retirement of Michael Jordan.
Think he will revive the interest in the game unlike shaq or Kobe. Or even lebron James.

Yes in pro sports ppl kelong. It occurs in football as well but does it look like the players in the nba are staging things up letting lin win?

You don't watch NBA very much (if at all), do you?

From his post it doesn't seem so at all.

OMG you only know NBA up till MJ if you say that a star like shaq, kobe BRYANT failed to bring nba back up. Btw you cannot compare mj to anyone else. That's quite similar to comparing say pele or maradonna to today's players and i don't think messi can compare to them.

NBA only went downhill pretty recently. kobe is quite a big star in his own right.

I'm sure Kobe's good. There's another young tattooed guy who was also highly rated. The media was talking about him... I can't recall his name... Maybe you can....??

But to my friends and me, nothing can beat the dream team. Jordan, Magic, Barkley, Karl Malone, Pippen, Bird, Stockton, Ewing on the same team ... It's like watching porn..!

I think you might be referring to lebrone james.

Just a passing phase. Been watching nba for more than 20 years now. Seen alot of 'stars' come and go. Give two seasons and if he dont win a ring, he will be just another nba player

Well, unfortunately, Singapore will never be able to claim him for anything. It will also be a long long way maybe never , for Singapore to come out with such a prodigy.

Sure but he will be the asian american chinese player that made it.

Asians especially the chinese have already done pretty well in the states. I can admit to that. But unfortunately for sinkees, who are not good enuff.

The reason is, they are willing to get out of the comfort zone and try doubly, triple even more times than the locals. I have seen Hongkies, PRCs, Taiwanese and even a lot if mid eastern people in Sydney who works a few times harder than the local Aussies. The one word is "survival"

Singaporeans, I should say 60% of us, still lives in our own comfort zone, in our little well.
