First he felt a push. The next thing the four-year-old boy knew, he had lost his balance and was tumbling down the escalator steps.
Two of the fingers on his left hand were trapped at the side of the escalator. By the time a member of the public and SMRT staff freed him, his fingers were bruised and bloody.
Now his family is appealing for witnesses to step forward and provide information about the incident. They claimed that the boy was pushed from behind by a stranger who was in a rush.

The parents should share the blame too for allwing their kid to use the escalator without supervision. They should know that it is not safe and someone should have held his hands or better yet, carry him. One thing that is happening here is that residents are getting so stressed that people just cannot be more patient and start pushing. Trying to get out of crowded MRT sometimes id hard because of impatient people blocking the way.

According to the reports, the maid was with him, no mention of parents.
If the person was in a hurry and pushed him accidentally, that's quite despicable.
If the person pushed him on purpose, that's evil.
There's another possibility that the person was not mentally well. Remember the discussion we had?
He should be sent for treatment but has to face harsh punishment, because his act was a violent one.

Don't discount the possibility either that the boy was fooling around on the escalator. Unlikely perhaps, but possible.

Kids love playing on escalators, no doubt about it. Since many incidents involving kids losing toes and falling from escalators, parents should take precautions. I have seen many instances when parents carried their kids and put them down on escalators instead of continuing carrying them.

I was at a mall having a meal and saw 2 ladies chatting. Their kids having finished was playing on the escalators but these 2 adults did not seem to care.

Maids should also be taught about the dangers. One should not rely on maids as they come from kampungs and knows little.

It is possible. I have just seen 2 kids fooling around on the escalator at Takashimaya.

Do you think the authorities are doing enough to educate the public on the dangers of using the escalators? I think they should put up more warning signs and also employ a person to blow whistles at those who misuse it. Perhaps some video clips at certain locations and on TV may be good.

Possible that it might been the hands of the maid ? The maid tulan the employers ?

Anything is possible. Let's hope the authorities will pay attention to the spate of accidents on young kids and do something about it. There's a lot of unemployed citizens that will be willing to take the job as an escalator minder.
