Warrant of Arrests: Sinkie police so toothless/ courts are pedantic?
What kinda of dumb or wayang 'renewal' policy is this?
Warrant of arrest (WOA) can by default expire one ah?
Even unreturned NLB library books remain on record for life until it is returned / declared lost and the respective fees paid fully.
Then just avoid police arrest for a time period and the warrant of arrest can lapse? Do police charges lapse too?
That said, police need to send letters to those folks with warrant of arrests at least annually until issue is solved, cannot purposely use WOA as harassment tool to keep people constantly worried or afraid of being suddenly investigated/called up for minor issues due to deliberate police procrastination cos lazy or to harass innocent people.
For serious crime cases, police should quickly arrest person, for small cases like missing court date for parking fines unpaid, should be updated vz SMS, snailmail letters, email and singpass app that if stopped at any police road block/ present passport etc to ICA, may be arrested on spot.
Unless judges are too free, like to rubber stamp their names everywhere on extending ownself issued arrest warrants, just to add a veil of legitimacy or churn more work to make judiciary seem important or busy.
If a person jumps bail and fails to attend court without adequate reason, the warrant of arrest should understandably not have expiry until the issue is solved or the police/ courts apologise and withdraw the original charges that warranted the WOA in the first instance (or the suspect has deceased). Needing to extend the WOA seems like unnecessary additional red tape for police as such a practice means that there will be people who have jumped bail but now cannot be arrested because they managed to evade arrest for a certain period of time.
This only serves to make the judiciary/ law enforcement toothless/ a big joke, no?
"In August that year (2022), a district court issued a warrant of arrest for the lawyer after he breached the conditions for overseas travel while on bail.
He was given permission to travel to Vietnam for work, but he failed to return to Singapore and claimed he was seeking "political asylum" in the UK....
Yeo also told an investigation officer that he did not intend to return to Singapore. In March 2023, the warrant of arrest was extended by the courts." https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sin...ngapore-lawyer-extradition-uk-custody-4743376
