don't bet on indon or pinoys
they are closer to yanks
pinoy and thai are actual yankee allies
indon or asean got no military might
so they'd usually tilt towards yankees for military assurance although yanks as usual will likely dump them after using them. why would yanks favour indon over ozzies when timor leste or papua are recent events not easy to forget?

If Winnie Xi doesn't start the war next year after the Winter Olympics, he can say bye-bye to his emperor dreams. This is such a huge red line for the CCP which the US has been trampling on.

U.S. Troops Have Been Deployed in Taiwan for at Least a Year

WASHINGTON—A U.S. special-operations unit and a contingent of Marines have been secretly operating in Taiwan to train military forces there, U.S. officials said, part of efforts to shore up the island’s defenses as concern regarding potential Chinese aggression mounts.

About two dozen members of U.S. special-operations and support troops are conducting training for small units of Taiwan’s ground forces, the officials said. The U.S. Marines are working with local maritime forces on small-boat training. The American forces have been operating in Taiwan for at least a year, the officials said.

What did it collide with? A kamikaze chink submarine? Is this the prelude to the Pacific War of 2022?

American Nuclear Submarine Damaged In "Underwater Collision"; 11 Sailors Injured

A Navy-affiliated news outlet reported Thursday that a US nuclear attack submarine had been damaged in the Western Pacific after suffering an "underwater collision" - although it's not clear what the sub collided with. The collision took place on Oct. 2.

The Seawolf-class nuclear submarine the USS Connecticut is now returning to port in the US 7th Fleet in Guam, where it's expected to arrive within the next day. The Navy says the safety of the crew remains its top priority.

"The Seawolf-class fast-attack submarine USS Connecticut (SSN-22) struck an object while submerged on the afternoon of Oct. 2, while operating in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region. The safety of the crew remains the Navy’s top priority. There are no life-threatening injuries," Capt. Bill Clinton told USNI News.

"The submarine remains in a safe and stable condition. USS Connecticut’s nuclear propulsion plant and spaces were not affected and remain fully operational. The extent of damage to the remainder of the submarine is being assessed. The US Navy has not requested assistance. The incident will be investigated."

A Navy official said 11 sailors were injured during the incident, suffering moderate to minor injuries.

The USS Connecticut is one of three Sea Wolf-class subs, an attack sub design first deployed late in the Cold War to hunt the most advanced Soviet submarines in deep blue water. Along with USS Sea Wolf and USS Jimmy Carter, the Connecticut is among the Navy’s most capable and sensitive attack boats, according to USNI.

The Connecticut is based at the Naval Base in Kitsap-Bremerton, Washington and was deployed on May 27 to the Pacific, the Navy announced at the time. The service has released photographs of the sub operating in the Western Pacific with port calls in Japan in late July and August.

Admiral Karl Thomas, commander of the 7th Fleet, visited the submarine in August.

Details of the incident remain vague, and it's unclear whether the sub collided with another submarine, or something else.

Vietnamese citizens slam distortion of history in Chinese TV drama - VnExpress International
By Nghinh Xuan

Thu 10/7/2021, 06:00 pm (GMT+7)

Audiences have expressed anger over possible distortion of the truth by a Chinese TV serial about the 1979 border war between Vietnam and China.
According to some Chinese websites and film forums, the TV series, titled "Ace Troops," has the Vietnamese army launching an invasion and its China counterpart acting in self-defense. However, the exact opposite is true. China had invaded Vietnam without any justification and Vietnam had to fight back in self-defense.

On Oct. 6, an account named Ali commented on Douban - China's largest film forum - about "Ace Troops": "The drama does not reflect history, it distorts information about Vietnam."

Earlier, on the Weibo social network, some Chinese bloggers had summarized the movie's plot. Yundanfengqing, with nearly 15,000 followers, wrote: "The series is set in the 1980s, the Vietnamese army grows strong and wanting China's territory, launches an invasion at the Chinese border. Facing this situation, in 1979, China launches a self-defence counterattack."

On the lcyu website, the trailer and poster of "Ace Troops" show that the film depicts the war on the northern border of Vietnam. According to Manyanu, another Chinese website, the film is about "Chinese soldiers in a self-defence counterattack against Vietnam".

Another website, Baidu, summarizes the series as having a timeline spanning 40 years starting in 1983, tracing the stories of two army rookies Gao Liang (Huang Johnny) and Gu Yi Ye (Sean Xiao). Liang is from a mining family, while Ye grows up in a military family. Both are aggressive and hate each other before becoming friends. They go through the war together, clearing landmines in Guangxi. The series, directed by Liu Yan, has released a trailer but has not announced its broadcast schedule.

Many netizens have pointed out that the clothes worn by the actors in the trailer match those of Chinese soldiers when they invaded Vietnam in 1979.

The trailer also includes scenes of the Chinese army firing shells and soldiers wearing camouflage and using AK submachine guns. The artillery was the main force used by China in the war it instigated in 1979.

On many forums in Vietnam and China, many Vietnamese netizens have strongly opposed the summary of the TV series by Yundanfengqing and others.

Nguyen Thanh Ngan 2412 wrote: "You tell a wrong history, distorted information. This drama needs to be boycotted no matter how much they have invested in it."

Diep Ha Nhien commented: "Haven't you read history, why is it so badly and wrongly written?"

Minh Anh220824 wrote: "Stop distorting history. I am always proud to be a Vietnamese. Read books before you write."

Musician Truong Quy Hai, veteran of Division 356, fighting on the Vi Xuyen Front in Ha Giang Province from 1984 to 1989, said: "Our fight was a fight to protect the Fatherland against the enemy. The Chinese troops invaded. Anything different is a fabricated story. They are deliberately distorting history, that's their intention."

Hai also said that young people today are well aware of national sovereignty.

"They are better than us because they have the opportunity to access information, take advantage of the media to spread opinions, spread truth and facts. I believe in the young generation. When we talk about Fatherland, automatically we will be united," the veteran said.

At dawn on Feb. 7, 1979, more than 600,000 Chinese troops simultaneously attacked the borders of six northern provinces of Vietnam. Armed forces, militias and ethnic minority communities at the border fought them on the spot, forcing the Chinese to withdraw from Vietnam on March 18 of the year. However, the withdrawal was not complete, and China continued to maintain forces at the border, harassing Vietnamese localities and triggering hostilities that lasted the next decade.

Gunfire continued on the Vi Xuyen Front after 1981, when the Chinese army began to attack with artillery shells. In late April 1984, Chinese troops illegally occupied many places along the Ha Giang border. The Vietnamese army organized a counterattack to regain these spots.

In 1984 and 1985, the two sides fought fierce battles. It was only by 1988 that the border situation eased, with the two countries actively withdrawing their troops.

According to the Liaison Committee of the Veterans of the Battle of Vi Xuyen, between 1984 and 1989, more than 4,000 Vietnamese soldiers died, thousands of people were injured, and the remains of more than 2,000 martyrs have not yet been found.

In recent years, the Chinese Communist Party or CCP has been exerting increasing pressure on Taiwan. The world is concerned that a war in the Taiwan Strait is coming. Whether or not the US can come to Taiwan's aid promptly has become a vital issue. An encouraging sign is that increasing pressure from the CCP on Taiwan is pushing more countries and people to Taiwan's side, allowing the world to see it and making it attractive.

The Chinese military has condemned the United States and Canada for each sending a warship through the Taiwan Strait last week as tensions rose between Beijing and Taipei.

Key points:

  • US ships have been transiting the Taiwan Strait on a monthly basis, angering Beijing
  • China sent record numbers of aircraft into Taiwan's air defence identification zone at the beginning of October
  • Chinese aircraft have not entered Taiwan's territorial air space yet
Taiwan's defence ministry said on Sunday that three Chinese aircraft — two J-16 fighters and an anti-submarine aircraft — flew into its air defence identification zone (ADIZ) again.
China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its own territory, and has mounted repeated air force missions into Taiwan's ADIZ over the past year, provoking anger in Taipei.
China sent around 150 aircraft into the zone over a four-day period beginning on October 1 in a further heightening of tensions between Beijing and Taipei that has sparked international concern.

The US military said the Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Dewey sailed through the narrow waterway that separates Taiwan from its giant neighbour China along with Canadian frigate HMCS Winnipeg on Thursday and Friday.
"Dewey's and Winnipeg's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the commitment of the United States and our allies and partners to a free and open Indo-Pacific," the US military said.
China's People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Eastern Theatre Command said its forces monitored the ships and "stood guard" throughout their passage.

"Taiwan is part of Chinese territory. Theatre forces always maintain a high level of alert and resolutely counter all threats and provocations," it said.
"The United States and Canada colluded to provoke and stir up trouble … seriously jeopardising peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait," the PLA said.
US navy ships have been transiting the strait roughly monthly, angering Beijing, which has accused Washington of stoking regional tensions.
US allies occasionally also send ships through the strait, including Britain last month.
While tensions across the Taiwan Strait have risen, there has been no shooting and Chinese aircraft have not entered Taiwanese air space, instead concentrating their activity in the south-western part of the ADIZ.
While including Taiwanese territorial air space, the ADIZ encompasses a broader area that Taiwan monitors and patrols that acts to give it more time to respond to any threats.

Former PM Tony Abbott accuses China of being a bully

Three sites in Fujian province, southern China, have been refurbished or fortified and will provide air combat support to the superpower's air force, reports The South China Post.
The images were published after the People's Liberation Army air force flew 149 flights into Taiwan's air defence identification zone (ADIZ) over four days earlier this month, a record figure.

Taipei says it will respond to any incursions.
Beijing has cast waves of aggression toward the island ever since the former nationalist government fled there at the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949.
Although Taiwan and China have been separately governed for more than 70 years, Beijing views the democratic island of 24 million people as part of its territory and has regularly stated its aim of "reunification", despite the fact Taiwan has never been ruled by the Chinese Communist Party.
