SMRT: Heavy rain, accident and traffic congestion resulted in bus delay

SMRT says that heavy rain combined with bad traffic conditions compounded by an accident caused the bus service 960 to arrive 30 minutes late on 29 and 30 June.

In an earlier article, STOMPer Gaoluck had written in to express his dissatisfaction with how he was to made for 30 minutes for bus service 960 during peak hour. He was disappointed that this had happened even as the Transport Minister had promised to improve bus services.

A spokesperson from SMRT said:

"Our investigations showed that heavy rain, traffic congestion and a faulty wiper on one of our buses resulted in delays to the arrival of Service 960 at the bus stop opposite Bugis Junction on 29 and 30 June.

"In addition, an accident on 29 June near the Lornie Road exit on the Pan Island Expressway blocked three lanes of traffic which compounded the delay.

"These factors resulted in a delay of 52 mins on 29 June, and 34 mins on 30 June.

"The bus with the faulty wiper was last at the workshop for preventive maintenance on 21 June and the wiper was checked.

"It was brought in for repairs again on 30 June and the wiper has been in good condition since.

"We thank the STOMPer for his feedback and apologize for any inconvenience caused."
