Dear The Real Singapore,

I know that many Singaporeans are exited to watch the World Cup which is starting soon and given the ridiculously high prices to subscribe to the matches through the Pay-TV providers, lots of us are forced to watch it where there are free screenings.

The People's Association has just released a list of the Community Centres that will be screening the world cup matches and I am disappointed to see that several of the CCs in opposition wards have been purposely left out of the list.

In total, 30 CCs around Singapore will be screening the matches for free. [Link]

I live in Eunos and there is a fairly big community center here that could easily screen the world cup matches, is it because it is an opposition ward that they have purposely decided not to screen it here?

I thought PA was supposed to be non-partisan and an organisation to help residents, regardless of political affiliation. It certainly doesn't feel this way.

I guess it's just another way that the PAP is 'fixing' us for voting opposition.

Luckily for us, we still have McDonalds restaurants nearby which will be screening the world cup. Looks like us opposition voters just have a few less choices in where to watch World Cup this year.

Or you could watch from abroad. I'm currently in London for work and EVERY match is being shown live and free to air either on BBC or ITV and most are either late afternoon or early evening K.Os

Back then, the community centres were to serve the people, not serve a POLITICAL PARTY, that was the community spirit. I remember when I was young, though, we were the few families that had a TV set at home, a B&W Telefunken, I still go to the CC near me to watch TV...just to interact with the neighbour kids etc.. play ping pong ( now table tennis) there, play the swing, play carom...etc

Not now, the c.c. is not for the community but for the party community....

but both both kovan and punggol cc are in the list. kovan cc at hougang st 21, under CSM and punggol cc at hougang ave 6, fall under LTK estate.

hardcore WP area such as hougang ave 3/5/7 which under hougang cc dont get to watch.

I thionk PAP did not consider sinkie in the equation for the CCs to screen World Cupsimply because sinkies are all rich and should stay in the luxury of their homes to watch paid TVs. It will be a disaster for sinkies to be seen in in CCs to watch this, sinkies are supposed to be rich. PAP is screening this for the poorer FTs and workers who cannot afford. What is a few dollars for sinkies to pay right?
