<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I WAS a participant in the annual Rip Curl Beach Volleyball Competition at Siloso Beach in Sentosa last Saturday. The organiser of this event, Lemon Labs (LemLabs), showed a lack of professionalism in a few instances which did not help to improve the sports scene in Singapore.
One problem that requires investigation was the extremely low and saggy nets on many of the courts. This was ridiculous, especially as this competition has been held for many years.
Courts were also placed extremely close to each other, with most about 1m to 2m. Volleyballs tended to roll from one court to another, interfering with game play during matches and possibly injuring players who stepped on them accidentally.
Games dragged on into the evening, and some matches were even held in the dark making it almost impossible to play without proper lighting.
With Singapore hosting the Youth Olympic Games in 2010, such lack of professionalism is unacceptable. With so much effort put in to improve the sports scene in Singapore, I hope there will be improvements in future volleyball competitions. Lim Yun Li
