Vivian says dengue is self-inflicted!

He should visit the families of the two men who died - and tell them that the death of their family members was self-inflicted.

What do you think?

Vivian: Why your son kill himself? Har, you tell me? Why?

This is a very insensitive and irresponsible statement.

My understanding of Self inflict is that you do it purposely unto yourself and there is often some gratification after that or you are simply a mental case. For example, you can self inflict a wound just to escape NS or you forgot to take your medication and start cutting yourself with a pen knife.

So is Vivian saying that we or our neighbors purposely breed mozzies and we sleep naked so that they can suck us at night?

If he does not have figures to show the number of summons that NEA has issued to household (vs commercial sites) who have these mozzies breeding in their compound, than this is also an utterly irresponsible statement to make.

It reminds me of that "3 meals statement in hawker centre or restaurant" all over again........

What will former Naavy Man Ronnie Tay do? Use Stealth Frigates to combat Mossies?

Vivian was the one who had made that infamous remark regarding bartop dancing many years ago.

That was undoubtedly the moment which exemplifies the saying 'better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt'.

He's an imbecile. You can safely disregard him.

Vivian grabs credits and when there is blame, he points the fingers at everyone else except himself. LHL should show some leadership by firing this incompetent, overpaid idiot immediately.

Vivian is absolutely right. The PAP has not caused any dengue deaths. Those who have died of dengue have been killed by the carelessness and cavalier attitude of sinkies towards their fellow citizens.

They should increase the penalties for those caught breeding mosquitos. In fact, they should be charged with attempted murder or manslaughter as their actions directly endanger the lives of others.

This the way to deal with sinkies who breed mosquitos and cause misery for the rest of us.

Chief occupants of households with mosquito-breeding grounds will now face spot fines or even jail terms, a Health Ministry official warned yesterday as the dengue epidemic continues. He said this would take effect when Parliament approved amendments to the Mosquito Breeding Prevention Act of 2007
.
The amendments would empower the Director General of Health to declare an emergency situation in areas with high number of dengue cases.

During the emergency period, Medical Officers of Health (MOH) would have the power to impose spot fines of up to Rs. 2000 on any person found guilty of not taking measures to curb mosquito breeding. This wouild be similar to the spot fines imposed on traffic offenders.

Health Ministry’s Deputy Director General (Public Health), Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that according to present laws, about two weeks were needed to take action against offenders and during this time, thousands of mosquitoes would have bred.

“Usually a verbal warning is given by MOHs and Public Health Inspectors (PHIs), then a warning notice and finally legal action. It’s a long process and it is apparently not being taken seriously by most people,” he said.

Under the present Act, if the owner or the occupier fails to take measures to destroy breeding grounds, he or she is produced before a magistrate and fined not less than Rs. 1000 and not more than Rs.25, 000.

“The new law will impose a jail term of six months for offenders,” Dr. Amunugama said. He said the new law would also enable health officials to enter and inspect gardens of private residences without written consent of the residents. Photographic evidence would be submitted to court when prosecuting offenders.

Last year 185 persons died and 28,140 dengue cases were reported. Dengue has already claimed 13 lives this month with 2,638 cases being reported. The highest number of cases was reported from Colombo and Gampaha districts followed by Kandy, Kalutara, Puttalam, and Ratnapura.

Now are know where our million dollar ministers draw his lessons from. Sri Lanka is indeed very similar to Singapore in the third world mindset of their civil servants.

What to do bring in so many 3rd world people and not expecting to get 3rd world dieseases? Way back during the 80s and 90s I thought dengue was a thing of the past like smallpoxs.

not dengue
but i just saw a china guy downstairs spitting as he was walking past.

so i said to him,
this is singapore not china

if really got SARS, wonder if he got the bloody balls do it

When SARS was mentioned; it dawn on to me that Vivi is trying to outdo Lim Hng Kiang's "Super Infector" statement.
The statement may mean nothing to the ministry or for the clueless minions that prepared their statements. But it is utterly insensitive towards the public by making such statements.

For people earning such high salaries and making such imbecile statements. I really wonder if they are committing political suicide or that they thought they could get away with it. If anyone noticed; the frequency of such comments has been on the increase the past two years; I wonder whether they want to illicit a reaction from the public to gather ground sentiments or really they are wealthy that their common sense rotted away from the brains (or whatever left of it) .

They should increase the penalties for those caught breeding mosquitos. In fact, they should be charged with attempted murder or manslaughter as their actions directly endanger the lives of others.

Then they should charge Singapore Telecoms for manslaughter & HDB too for that, they were the ones breeding mosquitoes at places belonging to these government bodies!!.. They opened up the Telecoms underground, cable duct man hole & found it to be water logged & the mosquitoes, never had it so good. They found water collecting on ledges on the flats designed, BY THE RESIDENTS?? no by HDB, after any rain, collecting water, breeding mosquitoes.

This help the mosquitoes to spread by going into home, where they are careless residents who have flower vases etc.. & the breeding continues. But the source are the ledges...

The number of residents breeding mosquitoes are negligible...the source of breeding sites is enormous, no need to go onto details. From your opinion, the government should be brought to task for man slaughter too, for many of their agencies are the indirect cause of breeding..and rightly so, they BREED, we BLEED!...

Even if they do contain the number of breeding sites or eliminate them, can they, NO!. For they are just too many holes, nooks & crannies for the mosquitoes to breed.

Have they checked:

1. Was the infected person bitten at home, from his neighbors, his area, his work place just about anywhere?
2. Did the infected person travel abroad?
3. Can dengue be spread by any other means, other than by mosquitoes??
4. Can a non carrier mosquito, the common type be infected by biting an infected person.

Don't you find it strange that NEA had gone on an all out effort to check for mosquito breeding, they did do a thorough one, going into every homes & looking into every possible areas & yet, the same area, will see a spike in cases.

Maybe, like you had mention... we should charge NEA for manslaughter too?? no?

There may be a small number of cases where government bodies have been lax but the vast majority of offenders are ordinary Singaporeans. I should know because I used to be one of them.

How to show when in the 1st place he doesn't have leadership quality

You breed mosquitoes in the house? I have lived in a landed property most of my life & now in a public housing. I roughly know where the breeding areas are, for I am very particular in the past..looking around the garden ( yard) for places for discarded things that breed mosquitoes.& that include gutters, drain pipes, small culverts, foliage's that can reatin water etc. As for HDB flats, the main culprits are flower vases, potted plants, water retainers for crockery & standing water in the toilets. Vases with water, are very, very few these days..for they are artificial flowers out there & many people uses them.

Mosquitoes breeders in homes are few...will not add up to 9,000 cases?? More have to be done to find out why?, rather going round & round & round the same old wheel, looking at the same set of known causes. Blaming people is the easy way out, it shows that, those in charge have no more answers.

I agree, blaming people is the best way out ! That is leadership 101 for you !

I worked for so many years... the worst managers I have come across are those, who blame the staff!! & they are the worst leaders, even though the profit reports are glowing.

Sure. But tat was many years back. Those days mana ada Dengue.

Tell me where the Dengue mozzie come fm in the 1st place? Self inflicted??:rolleyes:

After "You want 3 meals in restaurants, food court or hawker centres ???" and "Bartop dancings" episodes, and YOG overspending, VB has another famous insensitive quote to remember him by :

“(This disease) is still largely self inflicted,” Dr Balakrishnan said, referring to how most breeding grounds are still found in homes. “Whether you talk about dengue or the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, you are at risk if your neighbour’s health is compromised.
