I am a virgin but I always have a smell and discharge in my vagina. What should I do?
Most girls will have a vaginal discharge after puberty which can be thick and sticky, especially during the middle of their menstrual cycle or during ovulation.
During ovulation, vaginal discharge can be watery and stretchy, but it shouldn’t smell bad. Normal discharge naturally cleanses the vagina and helps to prevent infections.
DON’T douche or use any sprays to cover up the smell as these products can irritate your vagina.
Try bathing or showering every day with a mild soap and warm water, and wear cotton underwear.
If your discharge continues to have an odor, you may have bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV is a vaginal infection but it’s not considered to be a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
Girls who are sexually active and who have BV often complain of more odor with sex.
You’ll need to make an appointment with your health care provider to get checked out. If you do have bacterial vaginosis, you will be given a prescription for medication that will cure it.
