PETALING JAYA: The land vaccinated travel lane (VTL) via the Causeway will be fully opened to all travellers from Dec 20, the international trade and industry ministry (Miti) announced today.
In a statement, Miti said travellers must still be fully vaccinated while only unvaccinated children under 12 will be allowed to make the journey both ways, while being accompanied by their parents or guardians.
“The VTL-Land will still be limited to bus transportation only. VTL-Land designated bus operators will offer tickets to meet the expected increase in demand but it will be subject to the prevailing public health situation,” it said.
The VTL-Land between the two countries was launched on Nov 29 for those fully vaccinated, allowing many families to reunite for the first time since borders were shut in March last year.
Previously, the mutual agreement between both governments allowed for the respective citizens and permanent residents to cross the land border via the Causeway.
Miti said all travellers will be subject to Covid-19 testing and further health requirements upon arrival, adding that this decision was made in view of the increased demand for VTL-Land.
“Singapore-bound designated VTL-Land bus services will use the Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal as the boarding and disembarkation point in Malaysia, whereas Queen Street Terminal and Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange will be the boarding and disembarkation points in Singapore.”
