they killed the dogs because their stupid owner let them loose on the cops. Any cop in the world would have done the same, especially when someone has been reportedly attacked

Neighbours probably terrified of the dogs. Some were probably attacked. Pitbulls are no joke. Their bites can be nasty. And it won't let go.
