This was how the Korean restaurant in Jeju cooked our abalone seafood soup dish. Taken from my own collection, edited in lower resolution and muted the audio.
Yeah I found it ludicrous also. But the level of poverty there means people had to find a way... Notice I wrote the blade was fixed on a wooden stand on the ground... These people are so poor they don't even have a table to conduct their businesses on in the marketplace

To me, Jeju is just another ordinary small island, pretty clean and uncrowded.
But as you should already know, most Koreans are rude and rough. We already had the bad experience on our first day upon arrival. Our flight (direct to Jeju) was different from the others (transiting from Seoul) and so, we arrived in the late morning whilst the others in the group arrived in the late afternoon. We were pre-given an amount to take a taxi to our hotel by ourselves. Upon reaching the hotel, I called the local tour guide and to my horror, she said that she cannot arrange to pick us up from our hotel (the same hotel as the whole group) because she was coming on the same flight with them from Seoul and thereafter, they will proceed with their tour itinerary for the evening directly from the airport. So, either we make our way back to the airport by ourselves to join the rest of the group for the evening itinerary or we have to find our own dinner for that night. Our hotel was only a 20-minute drive from the airport at most and yet they cannot even pre-arrange to pick us up to return to the airport. Eventually, we made our way back to the airport by ourselves in order to join the rest of the group and continue with the evening itinerary. There were several more bad experiences later into the tour, which will take me a long list to mention here. Their customer service is very sub-standard. I tell you if not for my wife's insistence, I would not have gone for this trip to Korea because I had already knew of their rude and unruly characteristics as I had been there several times before for work assignments.
The Jeongol was also mediocre but the ingredients used were fresh.
