I know an HVAC guy who used to test like that, he blew himself out of a hvac closet and thrown into the opposite wall. He got to spent time in a burn ward. Lucky to lived at all.

During SARs and before the adoption of thermal sensors to check for fever in humans, there were triage staff placing thermometers (with sleeves) under the armpits of all visitors to the state courts. As the limited number of staff on duty were struggling to cater to the large crowds waiting to enter the building, an impatient woman who was busy talking to her lawyer, took one of the thermometers from the counter without a new sleeve, and placed it in her mouth. I was horrified, but had a difficult time suppressing my laughter.
