This has nothing to do with the current government. It's the US that imposed unilateral sanctions on the country.
All countries that are sanctioned by the US cannot trade freely, cannot even purchase medical equipment and medicine. It is said that 38 million people have perished due to US imposed sanctions since 1970's.
