Had to run an errand in Raffles Place & noticed that the PAP has been busy messing around with Victoria Memorial Hall. That building has been gutted & only the facade remains:(

RIP Victorial Memorial Hall, you are still remembered by some Sporeans:rolleyes:

Gee!, I thought the Bukom fire went across and burn down Vic Mem Hall. Is the Black coloured Statue of Sir Stampford Raffles still there? They are doing a major facelift, it will soon be LKY Memorial Hall....who on earth is Victoria?:D

Victoria Theatre and Memorial Hall holds many fond memories for me... Still remembered the experiences that I had when working as a stagehand there while waiting for my Poly results back then. I also had the opportunity to climbed up that famous Clock tower to do some maintenance work to cleaned up the mess left by the pigeons. Fixing the old wooden seats, setting up the props for stage plays and being able too see the SSO performing life... All these was way back then in the late 90s before the Esplanade was being built. There was once an occasion where a Taiwanese Opera group came there to perform. Managed to see Goh Chok Tong's brother coming there to attend the concert. Bugger really looks like him, very tall drving a Jaguar if my memories serves me right.. Did not know that it was GCT's brother until one of the old staff there told me so. Also had the chance to see some Ministers and MPs goin to Victoria Memorial Hall to attend some concerts as well... Goodbye Victoria Memorial Hall..

I still remember that exhibitions were held at the old Vic back then there wasn't a Suntec or an exposition hall. They also sometimes screened old movies like Finians Rainbow :)

Old man already have has his tombstone, the casinos:)

The PAP fire is more dangerous than a simple fire at Bukom. It's claimed such landmarks like National Library, Chinatown, Arab quarter,.........

Tax dollars are being wasted again & again for these renovations & there is no guarantee that it will end there. In a few years time expect some other politicians to come along & carry out more "upgrades" as part of empire building:rolleyes:

I have very fond memories of it in the 90s, performing there and attending SSO concerts anf other bands. A long time ago there used to be a hawker centre beside it and one opposite beside the river bank. Oh and the dark and smoky satay club and then the pasar near the bus terminal. For someone born in the late 70s my memory not too bad right? :D

Therw was a bar near the main road where audience would flock to during Intermissions. It was so quaint and so colonial. It doesn't open on Sundays though

Wah Bro Wiki you got the opportunity to perform there... I really think there's this mystical feeling each time I step on the stage back then when working as a stagehand there. The accoustic quality of the theatre was one of the best in Spore back then...Yes I remembered the Empress Hawker centre besides the Victoria Theathre and the Old Satay club near the Padang... the old staff once told me that the buildng was haunted, and they once saw a figure of an Ang Moh man in colonial uniform wandering when they closed the the theatre after a concert...Don't know if its true, but sometimes it can be bit eerie inside the building after closing time...

Thank goodness i never saw anything when i was there, but i saw something else somewhere else :D

The acoustics was one of the best in Singapore and someone at the top made sure it was like that when SSO was first created, not too sure who though it was either GKS or Lim Kim Sang?
