Her maiden surname is Hwang. I think she was already married when she was doing her law studies in uni.

Sorry, should be niece-in-law. Josie Lau is the niece-in-law of Thio Su Mien, who is the aunt of Dr Alan Chin.

Her obnoxious looking daughter Thio Li Ann is the cousin-in-law of Josie Lau Meng Lee. Whole farking gang are relatives and linked together besides being from the same church NBCB.

"I join the Thio family in mourning the passing of their mother and grandmother. Su Mien was a member of the pioneering class of law students at what is now known as NUS. We were classmates from 1957 to 1961. She was brilliant and hardworking and was one of the top students. The university recruited her and sent her to London for her doctoral degree. She returned to teach at the Law School. In 1969, when she was only 30 years old she was elected by her colleagues as the Dean. She was a good teacher and leader of the school. After only two years she decided to resign and to join a leading law firm. She wrote to me and urged me to return from the UN and succeed her. I did as she had requested and was the Dean from 1971 to 1974. She subsequently established her own law firm and was highly regarded as one of Singapore’s leading lawyers. We have kept in touch over the years. I have very fond memories of her and will miss her."
