Just bought Western Digital portable hard disk 2T for Mac. I was hesitant to buy this because it does not have the Apple Thunderbolt connection unlike the Buffalo 1T that I am using now. Salesman told me that Thunderbolt is obviously faster than USB but the USB 3.0 is not very far from Thunderbolt while Thunderbolt cost a lot more due to the licensing of this technology by Apple. My 1T Buffalo portable disk with Thunderbolt cost like $270 and this new 2T WD portable disk with USB 3.0 is only $199.

I just tried it copying an 8G file olm format of my outlook backup it too about 1min and 15sec. Impressed.

Then I copied my iTunes folder which is 21.44G it took only slightly more than 4mins. Very impressed indeed.

Of course if I really want to compare with Thunderbolt I will need to do it when in Thailand however even at this speed I am very happy, beats the USB 2.0. Am a happy man now.

kns always come up with difficult words make me have to check dicksionery

Why did you choose WD instead of Seagate or other brands?

Are WD hard disks reliable?

Also, have hard disk prices fallen since those price hikes following the floods in Thailand?

In my crude and lowly educated ways ..... I will say 'happy like fuck' :D

First of all, I was looking for a 2T disk and I would have chosen a Buffalo cos it has Thuderbolt connection for the 1T that I already owned (but I am sure the 2T will be much more expensive) so since Buffalo 2T is not available I had to chose another brand.

Secondly I am very familiar with WD (Passport they call it) as I have a few of these they had been very reliable and I also like its curve design so I selected WD and anyway I could not find 2T for Mac from the other brands. Seagate do have 2T but for Windows (NTFS format la).

I've given the prices above.

nabez, next time must try to be more crude..................:D

But please don't follow tha uneducated fella always wagging his finger until I giddy

I decided to go with the WD 1TB because all I needed was something to use to transfer between a Mac and Win 7 . The funny thing is that when transferring data from a win 7.0 machine to the WD can be very, very slow, even though the WD is formatted for Win i.e NTFS. However once the data is in the WD drive, copying it to a Mac is very much faster
