The whole town of Scenic, in South Dakota, US is for sale market for an asking price of $799,000 (RM2.37 million).

Once a booming 'wild west' town, it comes with 18.6 hectares of land.

It was built in 1906 as a railroad stopping point and is currently the property of an elderly woman, Twilla Merill.

It includes a saloon, a dance hall, a museum, a bunkhouse, two stores, a train depot, and two jails - though only one is functional. The town's current population is nine.

Scenic has suffered during the economic downturn which has affected the US.

On the market for three years, the price has dropped from $3 million (RM8.89million) due to lack of interest from buyers.

ABC News reports that Merrill, has been diagnosed with cancer and has decided it's time to sell.

"It's bittersweet," Merrill's daughter Lee Ann Keester told ABC.

"I have to take care of my mom. Family always comes first. But it's just time, everything comes with time. My mom would love to do it until she's 100, but her health won't permit her."

Forbes reports that the town didn't garner much buyer interest until the Rapid City Journal wrote a story about the listing.

National news agencies noticed the story and now there are offers from both Australia and England on the table.

Owning a home is great, but what if you owned your own city where you could gather the rent rather than paying it? Maybe even call yourself mayor and impose taxes on the population? There is a ton of towns up for purchase globally, and some will even go for less than a cool million,Towns for sale for under $1 million.
