SINGAPORE - Singapore has agreed to allow the US to deploy four new warships to its port but officials stressed Saturday the vessels will not be permanently based there and their crews will live aboard during ship visits.

Singapore has agreed "in principle" to the US request "to forward deploy up to four littoral combat ships (LCS) to Singapore on a rotational basis," the two sides said in a joint statement.

Final details of the agreement will be worked out by naval leaders from both countries, said the statement issued after a meeting in Singapore between US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen.

Singapore, located along the crucial Malacca Strait that links the Indian and Pacific Oceans, had previously agreed to at least two of the US littoral combat ships deploying.

US officials cite the deal on the littoral combat ships, a speedy new class of vessel, as the latest example of Washington's strategic shift to the Asia-Pacific.

Talking only stay offshore. Every 1~2 week need to refuel and loading food and water if not where they refuel. Refuel will take 1day or 24hr or more maybe 48hr so sailor can have off day.
So dont trust Strait Times and Mediacorp.
Talk about off shore is just SG dont want to make China angry only mah.

The typical arrangement is for them to come in for oneshore leave. Hotel vendors will have special packages for them for extended day of onshore leave. Officers get 5 star hotels. There was one incident where their officers in a 5 star hotel damaged the walls and carpets using the fire hose.

Don't worry entertainment outlets are familiar with these arrangements. For security reasons, they will be advised not to frequent the same outlets.

They will go for their usual onshore social company activities at Terror Barracks. baseball, supermarket etc.

When calling at a port, nobody will get confined in the ship unless for security reasons (e.g. a civil war is breaking out on the mainland).
