A US jury has taken little time to convict a senior former Chicago official of taking $US2 million ($A2.85 million) in bribes from Australian red-light camera operator Redflex.
John Bills, the Chicago Department of Transport's former second-in-command, was found guilty in less than a full day of deliberations of all 20 counts, including fraud, extortion, bribery and filing false tax returns.
Bills, working with senior executives of Redflex's US operation, helped the Melbourne-based, ASX-listed company land $US131 million contracts in Chicago between 2002 and 2011, making the city the red-light camera capital of the US.
