By their own words, the PAPzis had said that when no one else would dare provide the SAF with training grounds in the 70s, only ROC and Israel helped.

Yet, when ROC called for help with its typhoon relief efforts, the PAPzis would only offer US$200k! Where are our famed Chinooks? Where are our DART teams?

Surely, we can do better.

wah ROC provided us with trainings grounds donno for how many donkey years already...

忘恩负义!

U guys better think carefully. If Gahmen pump more money to the 'friend', need to suck it back from people.... Guess who?

I'm fully aware of the cost implications, but I think there is a greater cost (both moral and financial) for not repaying the years of goodwill ROC has shown us.

For God's sake, there are people lives at stake here..

Will we get preferential treatment to their mei meis if we provide more help?

yeah disgraceful

US$200k can only buy one luxury sedan

Fuck lah, want to help, help US$20 million to $50 million

Taiwan should just set aside political differences and seek emergency assistance from Beijing. I think Beijing can easily dispatch 200 helicopters overnight. But of course the sight of PLA insignia might be a bit too much.

However it is all about saving lives. Also this would be big political coup for Beijing.

Taiwan has enough Chinooks and fighter planes to line up our entire expressway. Why do you want to add on to the congestion? You want Singapore to belittle them? It a token gesture from a small country that we care for their victims - especially the plane load of medicines sent to them. So far we have not heard about other countries helping Taiwan victim either in cash or in kind. Would you like to volunteer and help them?

If Taiwan discards their Western ideologies and bypass the face issue then China would have assisted.

The PLA is not short of personnel or efficiency, as you can see how they handled the Sichuan earthquake. Even some Americans are starting to compare that to the way Bush handled the Katrina matter in their dismay and criticism of the latter.

All along Taiwan is bushitting themselves, going in idiot circles. They belong to China and when China decides to take back the renegade province there is nothing they can do about it.

They say the Americans will help, but to what extent? And specifically, would they really? What trading value does Taiwan have to America as compared to China? Even Japan, that Taiwan sucks the dick of, supports China more, from so long ago in their UN admission that they abandoned their position in a huff and now, try to get it back. What a bunch of clowns!

ROC's Army has very few Chinooks. Many of the other choppers are attack oriented and not suited for the heavy lifting needed. Other utility choppers can be used but are not as efficient as the Chinooks.

The ROC Air Force on the other hand have very few rotary wing crafts as it is designed to engage enemy from the air.

In any case, no matter how big ROC's forces are, the scale of the disaster has made domestic only efforts insufficient. And the ROC govt has asked for help, so there is no question of belittling or embarrassment.

ROC took part in the rescue efforts in Sichuan and was appreciated.

PRC sending squadrons of choppers to Taiwan would of course be uncomfortable but I don't think they would be turned away. The problem is PRC has its own rescue efforts in Fujian and Zhejiang and may find it difficult to send forces abroad.
