An unemployed man was jailed for three years on Monday for stealing laptops, CashCards and other items from unlocked vehicles at shopping centre carparks and a multi-storey carpark.
Over a six-month period this year, Tan Hian Ming stole property totalling $25,912 from the carparks of Takashimaya, Paragon, Parkway Parade, Marina Bay Sands, Resorts World Sentosa and the multi-storey carpark at Cairnhill Place. Only property worth $66 was recovered.
The 48-year-old, who admitted to five of 16 charges of theft, went round various carparks looking for unsecured cars to steal from.
He sold the stolen laptops at mainly Sungei Road. He also obtained refunds from the CashCards and exchanged foreign currencies to Singapore dollars and spent the proceeds.
