KUALA LUMPUR: Ten people aged 14 to 56 were arrested after a violent brawl erupted during a Hungry Ghost Festival performance in Segamat, with police seizing plastic chairs believed to have been used as weapons.
In the wake of the incident, police immediately revoked the festival's performance permit.
Segamat deputy district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Ng Swie Chait, said police received a report of the incident on Wednesday night at Padang Awam Li Chi, Kampung Abdullah.
"10 suspects aged between 14 and 56 were arrested on Sept 18.
"They admitted involvement in the fight, which took place during a Hokkien opera and band performance organised for the Hungry Ghost Festival prayers, he said in a statement.
The video of the brawl has since gone viral on social media.
The suspects, arrested in the fight, are being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury with dangerous weapons and Section 148 for possessing deadly weapons during a riot.
Police also seized several plastic chairs believed to have been used as weapons.
The festival committee said that Friday's performance has been cancelled following the altercation.
