London terror attack 'cruel and calculated': K Shanmugam
The London terror attack on Wednesday (22 March) was “cruel and calculated”, and clearly aimed at striking at the heart of British democracy and the British way of life, said Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam.
In a Facebook note, the minister added that it is a “sombre reminder of the clear and present terror threat around the world, and the need to stay vigilant and prepared”.
At 2.30pm UK time, a lone man drove his car into pedestrians along the pavement on Westminster Bridge before crashing his vehicle into a gate outside the Houses of Parliament. The driver was shot dead by police officers after stabbing PC Keith Palmer, 48, who also died at the scene.
At least five people have died, including the alleged assailant and Palmer. About 20 people were wounded on the bridge, with some said to have suffered “catastrophic” injuries.
British police are treating the incident as terrorism.
