Two teens arrested for string of vandalism cases in Jurong

The police have arrested two 14-year-old boys believed to be involved in a series of vandalism cases in Jurong West earlier this month.

Police have arrested two 14-year-old boys who are believed to be involved in a series of vandalism cases that occurred in the Jurong West Public Housing Estate that were reported in early May this year.
In view of the similarity of the offences committed, it was suspected that the culprits could be the same persons. A team of officers from Nanyang Neighbourhood Police Centre of Jurong Police Division was assembled to work on the case. Based on extensive enquiries and meticulous investigations, the officers managed to ascertain the identities of the suspects and arrested them on May 16, 2013 at around 2pm in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 64.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have committed at least 3 such offences in the Jurong West area. Under Sec 3 of the Vandalism Act, Chapter 341, a person convicted of vandalism shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 3 strokes and not more than 8 strokes. Investigations against the duo are ongoing.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim, commended his officers for their tenacity and good investigative work which led to the swift arrest of the accused persons. DAC Lim further added that such acts which damage and deface public property are not condoned, and Police will spare no efforts to ensure that the culprits responsible for such anti-social acts will be brought to task.
