Re: Two Tans, Two Different treatments - Two Nations, Two Peoples for Melvin & Patri

MPs still need to serve reservist?? I dont think so

This one totally confirmed. Got one very young Indian MP just kena elected earlier this year. He is in my reservist unit(different company). I was in ICT last 2 weeks and he was also there for the full 2 weeks though to be fair our SAF100 came before he won the election.

U might be happy to know that at least MPs still need to go Reservist.

Why would I be happy:confused: I'm well aware of the "Spore system"

During NS there was a white horse in my unit. At most I would only see him a few days a month. He was usually busy at the swimming pool involved in some kind of "training". I've no idea for what, since he wasn't involved in any competition

Everyone in the unit knew he was "connected" & didn't give him any trouble.
So even if an MP does reservist, I can bet the whole unit knows about it.

The Ah Neh Woodlands Drink Tap Water MP, Vikram Nair. I'm in an Infantry unit, not allowed to elaborate too much on what my unit does exactly and since he isn't in my company, I have no idea what his appointment is either.

However my unit is a bit unique. The higher the rank/appointment, the more work you have to do and that guy is an officer so if it's anything like the officers in my company then he is doing more work then most.

Would be interesting to see if he appears again in the next ICT though

I don't know if he pays income tax personally but I know his son LHL abolished estate shortly before his multi-millionnairess wife KGC passed away. How much they have saved could possibly run a calculator into overflow. How much they have hidden by no estate duty reporting requirement? Of course all the ministers, MPs, senior civil servants, banks and big bosses raised no objection as their families will benefit too.

actually it was LKY's brother Dennis' fortune (which took him even by surprise) that led to abolition of estate duty. he did not want the public to know how much his bro amassed from his lee n lee days.

This was before VN became MP - he only won his seat in 2011. MPs are given deferment from NS (reservist) while they are in parliament, both as a privilege but also to avoid mixing up the executive (military) and legislative (parliament) branches of government.

He won his seat in May 2011. My reservist started 2 weeks ago and ended last week in Aug 2011. Apparently he either didn't apply for or managed to get deferred.

Parliament won't sit until Oct 2011 - probably hasn't started his term yet or drawing the pay yet.

He got elected in May and he already started his term as MP. I'm pretty certain they have started getting his MP allowance. In any case my unit has some buggers who earn > $18K a month, high pay isn't going to stop them from calling him back.

Whatever, think what you want, dun even know why U need to find crazy excuses for something this simple. My only point was Vikram Nair is an elected MP but is still serving his Reservist. BTW I am 100% certain he have not MR, we had an MR ceremony at the end of this ICT and he wasn't part of it
