A 55-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with last month's attack on Kevin Lau, a former editor of the Hong Kong-based Ming Pao newspaper, Hong Kong police said Thursday.

Mainland police earlier arrested two men in the city of Dongguan, Guangdong province, who are believed to be the assailants responsible for the Feb. 26 attack on Lau.

Seven other men suspected of being involved in the assault were arrested in Hong Kong on Wednesday, bringing the total number of suspects to 11.

Lau remains in hospital following the assault in which he was struck six times on the back and legs with a cleaver, leaving wounds including a 16-cm-long gash.
