A former Gurkha officer was captured by the police on Monday after a two-hour manhunt in a forested area in Pasir Ris.

The 35-year-old, who last held the rank of police constable, was arrested for desertion, said the police, responding to queries from The Straits Times.

Investigations into the case are still in progress but it is understood that he had failed to report back to camp as ordered.

The Gurkha contingent in Singapore, which is now about 2,000-strong, was formed in 1949. Based in Mount Vernon Camp, the officers are usually assigned to escort duties and to guard key installations.

When ours are like donkey and shrek, they sure look like super soldiers.

gurkhas are deadly even unarmed. U reckon u can rob a gurkha with a screwdriver? LOL

Gurkha most of them are physcially very fit. Especially PULL UP and RUNNING 2.4 is like peanuts to most of them !

Desertion need to activate so many people?
He stole weapon si bo?

Gurkhas are a special case. They are the personal bodyguards of some prominent people.
So it is a matter of *national security*.

I have no respect for Gurkhas. They have exceptional stamina but they're nothing more than mercenary dogs for the British Commonwealth.

Was the a case some years ago, when 2 iLLegaL immigrants were caught in the semi forested area at our Nothern Landing point, when about 500 officers were despatched for the manhunt ?..
In the end, they surrendered meekLy without any arms in their hands ..:D

One who knock down & died near to former Bidadiri Cemetary on the pavement jogging...no need weapons!, just a car & drubken driver!

Why so many looking for a deserter? is the Gurhka Camp, Stalag 13? or "chicken run' where the Nepal men check in they can't check out, like "Hotel California" also?

Didn't know they have a concetration camp at Mt. Vernon.:p

I tell ya, even if some Gurkha were to step forward and make scandalous revelations of Kuan Yew confining young boys to his basement for paedophilic gratification, Singaporeans would just shrug and respond with something along the lines of "later you all wanna shop at ION orchard or VivoCity?"

gurkha are bring in to kill singaporean when the ang chia/SOC and the army cant do the job. use outsider to kill the rebellious singaporean is the best way to deal with a freak election result.

I wonder are they drawing a high pay? :D
dunno about now but during WWII they got paid by the number of kills.
So Gurkhas would sliced off the ears of victims as proof of kills and string them into a necklace to wear it with them.

Thks for the info bro, they are born to kill :D
