Two people are dead, including the gunman, after shooter attacks Florida shopping mall. A second victim is hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
A gunman opened fire at a central Florida mall Saturday, killing one person and injuring another before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.
The shooter was dead at the scene, reported WISH-TV.
Police said the incident may have stemmed from a domestic dispute. The gunman was identifed as Jose Garcia Rodriguez, 57, of Palm Bay. The injured victim was his wife, Ida Garcia, 33, ABC News reported. Police did not reveal a motive or explain the dead victim’s relationship to the pair.
Garcia was listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital, authorities said.
Melbourne police tweeted “shooter is contained” about an hour after shots rang out around 9:30 a.m.
"All the sudden we heard these really loud bangs. Like eight of them. It was definitely gunshots," jewelry store employee Cody Jones told WFTV.
"People were running through the mall and stuff, and trying to see what's going on," he said. "I saw two people shot when I walked outside the entrance."
Shoppers and employees ran for cover when the shooting started.
“You don’t keep your cool. You’re just automatically reacting,” said Elizabeth Tickle.
“Your feet are just going and you legs are running,” she told the station.
