SINGAPORE: Two men have become the first to be caught in Singapore for suspected offences related to New Psychoactive Substances (NPS).
The designer drugs have been made illegal and now carry the same penalties as controlled drugs like methamphetamine and heroin.
About 94 grams of synthetic cannabis were seized from the arrest.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Saturday that the two Singaporean men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested on Friday evening at a shopping centre in Tampines.
About 71.7 grams of synthetic cannabis were found on them.
CNB said the 22-year-old suspect is believed to have been trafficking in synthetic cannabis.
After he was arrested, CNB officers raided his residence and recovered another 22.3g of synthetic cannabis.
The 22-year-old is currently being investigated for trafficking in a controlled drug. - CNA/gn
