Two arrested for molesting victims at MRT stations

Two male suspects aged 25 and 45 have been arrested for molesting two female victims at public transport areas in two separate cases.
The first case happened on March 31. The victim reported to the police that she was molested by an unknown suspect while she was travelling on an escalator towards the main train platform.
In the second case, another victim reported on March 27 that she was molested on board a train along the North East Line. She did not alert anyone as the suspect walked away after being shouted at by her.
Officers from Central Police Division and Public Transport Security Command managed to establish the identity of the suspects through extensive ground enquires and viewing of CCTVs at the train stations.
Suspects for the two cases were arrested at Farrer Park and Hospital Drive respectively. Police investigations are ongoing. If found guilty, the suspects may face imprisonment of up to two years and caning.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan, commended the officers for working around the clock resulting in establishing and arresting the suspects.
He advised the public to alert the station master or seek help from other members of public should they be caught in an unexpected situations. Police should also be alerted at the earliest opportunity.
While on public transport, the public is advised to be alert and attentive to your surroundings. When possible, move away if someone stands or sits exceptionally close to you.
If your modesty is outraged, shout for help immediately, seek help from people nearby or activate a shrill alarm to increase the chances of apprehending the culprit early. Call Police immediately at 999 and approach the station manager.
