Ex-TVB actress Joyce Chan, 47, secretly gave birth to daughter 3 years ago, baby daddy is Dayo Wong’s driver

Hong Kong actress Joyce Chan Yin Hang, best known for her role in the long-running TVB period sitcom, Virtues of Harmony, which aired from 2001 to 2002, has largely faded from the public eye.

Hailed as one of TVB's "Five Beauties” in the ‘90s, the 47-year-old was recently revealed to have secretly given birth to a daughter, after she was seen picking up the three-year-old from nursery.

The news came as a surprise to many as Joyce has long claimed to be single.

Earlier this week, Joyce confirmed on social media that she has a daughter, saying "this good news should have been announced three years ago”.

She declined to reveal the identity of her partner, only describing him as "a simple, low-key person [who is] not in the entertainment industry”.

A close friend of the actress later told Hong Kong's Sing Tao Daily that Joyce’s partner is the driver of actor Dayo Wong.

The pal praised him for being very caring towards Joyce, and a quiet gentleman.

“When they join us for meals, he is always 'behind the scenes', quiet, serving tea and water, picking her up and dropping her off, they are a sweet couple. All these years, they have never split, they did not go public with their relationship due to pressure."

The friend added that Joyce is very protective of her partner: “In front of friends, she gives him face, never mentioning his job as a driver to avoid hurting his self-esteem, and especially not revealing he is Dayo Wong’s driver to avoid trouble."

According to the pal, Joyce’s mother, who ran a successful F&B business for many years before retiring, was initially against their relationship.

Joyce comes from a well-off family and studied abroad in Canada during her high school years, later attending the University of California in the United States. After graduating, she returned to Hong Kong and joined TVB's 7th Artist Training Class.

"Joyce’s mother is wealthy and respectable, with only two daughters (Joyce being the younger one), and is well-educated, so she naturally wanted her daughter to marry well. Hence, she opposed of her relationship with the driver many times, repeatedly advising her to reconsider,” shared the friend.

But Joyce, being a hopeless romantic, was moved by her partner's love and defied her mother's wishes, even starting a family with him.

“When the old lady saw her adorable granddaughter and how she is a carbon copy of Joyce, and also how her 'son-in-law' is hardworking and cares for the family, she finally accepted him,” disclosed the friend.

Last year, her mum reportedly gifted a North Point luxury apartment worth tens of millions of dollars to Joyce and her family.

According to sources, Joyce is quite the helicopter parent.

With her mother’s financial support, Joyce stepped back from her career to take care of her daughter.

Her daughter attends a prestigious nursery where the annual tuition fee is around HK$110,000 (S$19K).

Joyce is said to be quite high profile at her daughter's school and would often participate in parent-child activities.
