that is war...in a war everything goes.

WW1 - German U boats torpedoed Lithuania or something...killing thousands of civilians - worse, the ship is flying a US flag - which at that point in time a neutral country...that dragged US into the war.

If US fought and bomb all the way from from japan southern islands to Tokyo, civilian casualties would be 5/6 times higher than Hiroshima and Nagasaki total. Marshall estimated half a million allies soldiers deaths if they do a land invasion. We can imagine deaths of civilian and soldiers on Japan side. The bombs helped to soften US negotiations with Japan in surrender treaty - their royal family were not persecuted for war crimes / china soldiers were not allowed to occupy Japan.

If the bombs weren't used, Japan would fight to death and surrender with more deaths. Soviet Union will invade Japan and she will be partitioned like Germany and Korea. Isn't that worse?

the ultimate culprit = USA. Way back in 19th century (1800s), Japan is a closed up backward cuntry...playing with swords and dressing up as ninjas. Then one fine day, Commodore Perry came around with a gun ship and promise to fuck Japan if she don't her doors....the rest is history....
