Mr John Patrick Wee, the third son of Singapore's late Chief Justice Wee Chong Jin, had just celebrated his 50th birthday more than a week ago, and proposed to his 22-year-old girlfriend on the same day.

But the deputy CEO of True Group - which manages a chain of fitness centres and spas - died in his sleep in Thailand on Saturday morning, due to a heart attack.

According to the Shin Min Daily News, Mr Wee was in Bangkok on a business trip on Wednesday, he then flew to Pattaya on Friday to play golf, and returned to Bangkok on the same day.

However, he experienced chest pains that night and called a doctor. The doctor assumed it was a muscle strain, and instructed Mr Wee to take some salt water and have a good rest.

Mr Wee did so and retired to bed soon after.

His room-mate woke up at 3am to check on him, and realised he was no longer breathing. He called the ambulance, and performed CPR on Mr Wee. But Mr Wee was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Unforgettable memories

Mr Wee's 22-year-old fiancee, Ms Juliana Jauw, an undergraduate, told Shin Min reporters that she is deeply saddened by his sudden death.

They had met at Mr Wee's elder brother's wedding, and were a couple for four years.

She said she still "can't forget" the moment when he proposed at her door, and were planning to get married either at the end of this year or next year.

A 50 year old going out with a 22 year old puts a strain on anyone's body
