An argument over a meal of crab triggered a killing spree by a Chinese national which ended in the deaths of three women, the High Court heard on Wednesday.
Wang Zhijian, 45, who is accused of killing them in the horrific incident on Sept 18, 2008, told police after his arrest he was angry when his girlfriend, Madam Zhang Meng, asked him for money.
When he asked her why she needed it, she said she wanted to eat crab. He told her she had just eaten the dish a few days ago, and that they should save the money. He claimed she called him a 'pauper'.
He then asked her what she regarded him as. 'When she is in a good mood, I am her boyfriend, but when she is not happy, I am like a beast to her,' he told police.

THE DEAD
Zhang Meng, 42
Wang's girlfriend. She came here in 2007 after her daughter got a place in a school here. Wang said he stabbed her while she was lying on a mattress in his room. She suffered 44 knife wounds.
Feng Jianyu, 17
Madam Zhang's daughter. Wang said he attacked her after she opened the door. The teenager suffered 42 knife wounds.
Yang Jie, 36
Madam Zhang's sub-tenant. She came to Singapore from Shenyang in Liaoning province in 2008, to be with her daughter, who is studying here. (note: PRC tenant sub-letting to other PRCs)
When Wang rushed into their room, she ran out to the kitchen and climbed out of a window. She clung onto bamboo pole holders but fell to her death.
THE SURVIVOR
Li Meilin, 18 (18 years old still need mum to look after? Come on! More like mum over here to work in geylang)
Madam Yang's daughter. Wang slashed her in her room. When she escaped to the kitchen toilet, he followed her and slashed her.
Among her many injuries, she had 27 lacerations to the right side of her face, 14 to the left side of her face, her right ear was 80 per cent torn off, and her right eyeball was ruptured.
With 3 dead bodies in 1 HDB, nobody will want to buy such a unit. This is the problem when you rent to any tom dick or harry)
