Who is Ng Kok Khim?
TR Emeritus (TRE) readers, through cyber CSI, sent in information of “Ng Kok Khim” to TRE. Someone sent in a picture of “Ng Kok Khim” who was a town councilor of Marine Parade Town Council in 2006. His picture was on a newsletter from the Marine Parade Town Council [
Link]. In fact, he was being highlighted in the newsletter for receiving the public service medal (PBM) during the National Day Award 2006. In the picture, he was referred to as a grassroots from the Kaki Bukit area. Kaki Bukit came under the Marine Parade GRC in 2006.
To ascertain if the “Ng Kok Khim” in the picture is the same person from the 538 Market Association, who has received the quotation from ATL, TRE sent a correspondent down to Blk 538 of Bedok North St 3 to find out:
Our correspondent talked to a number of hawkers and stallholders in block 538 and all confirmed that the 538 Market Association’s representative is the same person in the picture. Hence, Mr Ng Kok Khim, in addition being a grassroots leader, is also a representative of 538 Market Association.
The hawkers also told our correspondent that it is very confusing for them to remember that anything below 2.5m is cleaned by AHPETC while those area above is cleaned by NEA. Our correspondent helped dispel the rumour by explaining to the hawkers that this isn’t true. Our correspondent told them that according to a media release from AHPETC (7 Jun), “all cleaning contractors employed by AHPETC are well aware of its obligation under the contract to clean the high areas of all the markets under AHPETC management at least once a year”. It’s not known who told the hawkers and stallholders of block 538 the wrong information.
Our correspondent also went to the 538 Market Association’s address stated in the ATL quotation. Unit #01-651 is actually in the next block 539. It’s a shop unit by the name of “B G Garment Department Store” selling clothing and household things. According to a some of the hawkers, the shop is purportedly linked to Mr Ng Kok Khim.
TRE readers have also sent in information that Mr Ng Kok Khim is not only a grassroots leader but also a long time PAP member. In fact, he was commended by his party during a 2011 PAP Award Ceremony for his long service to PAP [
Link]. He received the Long Service Medal (Silver) for his work in the Kaki Bukit division of Aljunied GRC. The Kaki Bukit area was “transferred” to Aljunied GRC from Marine Parade GRC, just before the 2011 GE. It’s not known if Mr Ng Kok Khim is still a town councilor with the Marine Parade Town Council since his division is no longer under Marine Parade GRC.
In any case, the fact that Mr Ng was awarded the PAP Long Service Medal, he must be considered to be a party patriot by PAP.
