NSF with no licence showed 'wilful disregard' of road rules

A FULL-TIME national serviceman out to impress his girlfriend on her birthday in December 2009 borrowed a friend's car to drive her home - never mind that he had no driving licence.
Edwin Lin Kangming, then 20, floored the accelerator and blazed down Seletar Expressway at 127kmh at just past 1am on Christmas Day, catching the attention of two Traffic Police officers. They gave chase on their motorcycles, lights flashing and sirens blaring, and still Lin did not pull over.
Instead, he went faster, swerved in and out of lanes, ran two red lights, drove against the flow of traffic for a short stretch, and even caused one of the police bikes to crash into metal railings.
Lin stopped only when other vehicles ahead of him stopped at a red light on Woodlands Avenue 1, and was arrested.
He was recently sentenced to six weeks' jail, fined $3,000 and barred from driving for three years.
He pleaded guilty to seven charges: speeding, failing to stop on the orders of a police officer, dangerous driving, driving without a valid licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop in an accident, and failing to render aid in an accident.
