The big difference between SG compared to many other places, is very simple.

SG boasts of all the expensive installations & buildings, and man made sanctuaries. SG boasts about being the 1st in asia to have many 'attractions'.

Conclusion, tourists rather visit the real things that have history & character in it, than to spend $ visiting places that've been man-made, and lack substance in it. So, its obvious that some come here for transit to other neighbouring countries & islands. Some may just spend 1 or 2 days here for some shopping, and that's pretty much all there is to do in SG.

8 out of 10 foreign friends of mine, use SG as transiting point to visit, M'sia, Indon, Thailand etc. The remaining 2 are here to learn a new language, and work part time to cut back losses on rental.

Places like Japan has got alot going for it, e.g. Japanese culture.

What is unique about Spore? Oldest dictator, highest paid MPs, ...

We actuallyHAD some interesting places but the PAP had other plans & demolished them

agreed.but singapore also have culture ( but ugly ones )..yes money is not an issue for tourist who wants to have some fun and buying things  if singapore were to like japan , then tourist will not mind spending money  . the facts is , singapore got nothing to offer yet so expensive

i have many friends in singapore who visited me in japan , yes all of them said its expensive but , worth every single cents ...some of them even said japan is cheap ( because i bring them to some "local places" , not tourist area) .

How about the overcrowding effect? Would it make tourists experience here more unpleasant?

tokyo itself is already overcrowed but everyone is not as rude as singaporean or any FT living in singapore . those FT living in japan most of them are well-behaved unlike singapore ...maybe thats what monkey see monkey do

Wait till the three towering tombstones and the three massive graves to be readied.
People will flock there with offering of real money.
