several years ago in 2009, 2 japs were caught on the italian border trying to smuggle u.s. bond documents worth $134.5b to switzerland to sexchange them for other currencies. they claimed to be jp finance ministry officials and were later released with “diplomatic immunity” after being contacted by the jap embassy. their identities are never revealed to the press. later, the u.s. secret service representative confirmed that the bonds were fake as the highest bond denomination on paper issued by the treasury was $10k. the bonds in the confiscated suitcase were $500m and $1b in denominations, way over the $10k note. until now nobody in the pubic domain knows who was behind this scam.
