Sensing that he may not be elected as the next President of Singapore, Tony Tan yesterday spelt out that what he sees as the vital features of a second Resilence Package to help Singaporeans in an event of an economic crisis.

"Families with children, people living in three-room HDB flats, other public accommodation, all these people will require help,'' he told reporters.

"Secondly, we must protect jobs. When you have high unemployment as in US, at 9 per cent, in Europe, Spain 15 pe rcent, in Greece, over 20 per cent, where is hope? There is no hope."

Plans are ready and can be rolled out. So, we don't scramble around at the last minute, after the crisis hits us, trying to improvise," he said.

Dangle carrots? I thought I heard others dangling abalone and shark fin soup?

Donating their presidential salary to charity, evicting the president from the Istana and perhaps turn it into a public museum and park, listen to the people and do what they want (school boys will love this).

I would go for the "abalone and shark fin soup" any time. Not the public park where I will see more of the Bangladeshis and Pinays -not that I don't like them - I respect them for their hardwork and bravery - but just wish to rejoice the fresh air and sense of freedom with our own kind.

Spoken like a true PAP politician and not that of a future head of state. Does the Queen (who is Head of State of the Commonwealth) comment on such issues??
If you truly want to be President, stay out of political debate, Dr Tan..

This is a mid campaign switch of message to bread and butter issues to counter TJS' growing rapport with the heartlanders who see his election as EP as one more lever to get our "save for the future generation" garment to refocus policies on present needs and economic difficulties of its citizens..

Dun think he is desperate, but its always PAP style of doing things mah.

Tony should dangle his 2 wrinkling balls for his por lumpar supporters to do what they do best.. Sucking Balls of their PAP Masters..!!!

He is issuing checks he cannot cash.

On the contrary, the other three are issuing bounce cheques. President can't make laws or policies. TT is issuing a good cheque on the presidential role, but it's a crap role to begin with. Spoil vote and scrap the system, that's my say!

While TT and TCB have stated so far that their comfort zone is to work within the boundaries of the Constitution, TJS and TKL are to stretch beyond that... this is clear sign that TJS and TKL are giving TT and possibly TCB a good run for the money.

TT is showing signs his willingness to stretch the OB limits of an EP... but if he is opt in as an EP, nothing much will possible change in the end.

However, if TJS is the EP, Singaporeans can expect lots of good improvements from the Govt... non-obvious to many Singaporeans PAP supporters at this moment.

Right. Common sense dictates that if we want change, we have to vote Tan Jee Say.

You guys still not truely waken up . The EP is bounded by restrictive house rules of the PAP .
