綜合日媒報導，日本警方在上月29日接獲置物櫃管理公司報案「置物櫃傳出惡臭」希望能協助處理。事後警方到場打開置物櫃，赫然發現一個小型行李箱裡頭裝了一具女嬰屍體，並研判女嬰可能在出生後隨即遭殺害遺棄，死亡時間超過１周以上。

日本警方隨後調閱附近監視，發現5月8日與15日清晨一名女子戶川萬緒曾到藏屍的置物櫃投錢，並在今日成功將她逮捕進行偵訊。女子被逮捕後也坦承，1月時在一間漫畫喫茶店產下女嬰，因為女嬰哭聲響亮很吵，擔心被怕他人發現會很麻煩索性把她殺了，隨後將女嬰屍體裝入行李箱，丟棄於附近的投幣式置物櫃中。

A 25-year-old Japanese mother was arrested on Saturday for killing her newborn baby at a cafe in Tokyo and dumping the corpse in a locker, police said.

The infant’s remains were found wrapped in a vinyl bag inside a suitcase in the locker by police after an employee of the company that operates the lockers reported a foul smell, according to Fuji TV.

The woman, Mao Togawa, was detained on suspicion of abandoning a body, a spokesperson for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police said Mao Togawa admitted to killing the baby after she gave birth in January in a private room at a cafe in Tokyo’s Kabukicho red-light district. She is likely to face a murder charge, Japan Today reported.

She told police that when the baby was born, she became frightened someone would find out after the infant cried, so she strangled her daughter with a towel, according to the report.

Togawa then put the baby’s body in the suitcase and put it in the locker, which is outside a building about 200 metres from Seibu-Shinjuku Station.

Police said Togawa had been renting the locker continuously since then and that surveillance camera footage had shown her putting coins in the locker -- in a busy area with several eateries and hotels -- to keep it closed.

Authorities say the 25-year-old suspect has no fixed address and claims to be unemployed. They say she was staying at a manga cafe near the locker.

Officials say she claims that she gave birth to the baby in the cafe. They say the woman told them that she killed the newborn after it cried, because she feared that someone might notice that she had a baby.

Police say the suspect has stated that, several days later, she put the baby in a suitcase and left it in the locker.

Officials also say there were strangulation marks on the baby's neck.

TOKYO: A Japanese mother who allegedly delivered and killed her newborn baby at a Tokyo cafe before dumping the corpse in a locker was arrested Saturday (Jun 2), police said.

Officers found the decomposing body of an infant, who appeared to have been choked to death, in the locker last month after unpleasant smells were reported there.

The 25-year-old mother, Mao Togawa, was detained on suspicion of abandoning a body, according to a spokesman for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

The suspect is likely to also later face a murder charge as she largely admitted the allegations, local media said.

She told investigators that she gave birth in January at a cafe where customers drink and read comic books in the capital's entertainment district of Kabukicho, the spokesman and reports said.

The suspect admitted that she killed the baby immediately "because she cried" and then put the body in a suitcase which she left in a nearby baggage locker, they said.

Police questioned the suspect after CCTV footage showed her slotting coins into the locker - in a busy area with many restaurants, bars and hotels - to keep it closed.
