1) Former PUB employee
jailed for accepting bribes

SINGAPORE — A former Public Utilities
Board (PUB) senior technician was jailed
four months yesterday after accepting
bribes totalling almost $2,300.
Jumat Omar, 41, was also ordered by a
district court to pay a penalty equivalent
to the amount he had obtained corruptly.
Jumat pleaded guilty to three graft
charges. Four other charges were taken into
consideration.
He committed the offences between
late 2006 and April 2009.
Jumat used to work at the PUB’s sewer
repair section and one of his duties was to
notify private homeowners whenever their
sewer lines needed to be repaired. He was
also tasked with recommending contractors
to affected residents.
To prevent favouritism, Jumat had to
provide homeowners with a minimum of
three referrals from PUB’s list of recommended
companies.
Assistant Public Prosecutor S Puspha
told the court that Jumat took the bribes
in exchange for being more lenient to subcontractors
when they performed their jobs.
One of them was PMPS Liner Technology,
a company that deals with sewer repairs.
Jumat went with two of its directors
to the Superstar KTV Club at Hotel Royal
on Feb 20, 2009.
The court heard that his share of the bill
came up to nearly $400 and it was settled
by one of the directors, Mr Yeo Soon Tian.
In another incident, Mr Yeo shelled out
more than $750 in March 2009 to repair
Jumat’s damaged laptop computer.
MediaCorp understands that the other
parties involved in these cases have yet to
be dealt with by the court.
Jumat could have been jailed up to seven
years and fined a maximum of $100,000 for
each corruption charge. Shaffiq Alkhatib

2) SCDF deserter jailed, caned
for fatal gang fight in 2003

SINGAPORE — A Singapore Civil Defence
Force (SCDF) personnel, on the run for
nearly seven years following a fatal gang
fight, has been jailed for 30 months and
given six strokes of the cane.
Muhammad Sazali, 29, was a full-time
National Serviceman with the SCDF when
he took part in the brawl.
And because he deserted his duties and
remained absent without leave since the
incident, he was sentenced to an additional
15 months’ jail yesterday.
Muhammad and at least 14 others attacked
Mohamad Sadik Senin, 19, at Clarke
Quay between 2.40am and 3am on April 17,
2003. The teenager died at the Singapore
General Hospital about an hour later.
Muhammad had admitted that he used
a knife to slash the teenager.
The court heard that none of Sadik’s
14 convicted attackers used weapons in
the fight.
But the unknown others involved, who
are still at large, could have done so.
And they could have wielded the
weapon — believed to be a screwdriver —
which was used to deliver the fatal wound.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Lee
said that the victim died from a stab wound
to the heart.
Muhammad went into hiding after the
fight. He fled to Malaysia from Marsiling
about a week later by walking along two
huge water pipes.
He stayed with relatives there and
remained on the run until he decided to
surrender to the Malaysian police in April,
last year. He was charged with entering the
country illegally and spent four months in
a Malaysian prison.
Muhammad was released and handed
over to the Singapore police at the Woodlands
Checkpoint on Aug 20.
His accomplices had been tried and
sentenced in 2003 and 2004.
Most of them were sentenced to between
six and 24 months’ jail.
For rioting, in addition to caning, Sazali
could have been jailed for up to seven years.
And for remaining absent without
leave from his national service, he could
have been jailed a maximum of 10 years.

3) Woman fined for forging MCs

SINGAPORE — A former finance assistant
from a non-profit group, Singapore Muslim
Women’s Organisation (PPIS), has been
fined $5,000 for forging medical certificates
(MCs).
Filzah Nadhirah Mohd Saleh, 24, admitted
in court yesterday that she doctored
two such documents from Lifecare Family
Clinic in April last year.
She originally faced four other charges
for a similar offence but they were taken
into consideration.
The bespectacled woman had appended
the dates, serial numbers and the
signature of Dr Ang Seng Bin on the medical
certificates.
She then submitted the forged documents
to a manager at PPIS, Ms Rohana
Abdul Latip, 36.
The court heard that when Filzah
started taking frequent medical leave,
Ms Rohana decided to check with the clinic
about her subordinate’s health.
It was only then that she discovered
that Filzah’s last visit there had been in
October 2009.
Ms Rohana also found out that Dr Ang
had left his employment at the clinic in 2008.
The manager lodged a police report
about the doctored documents in May last
year.
Filzah could have been jailed up to four
years and fined for each forgery charge.

4) Jail, caning for robbing cabby

SINGAPORE — A knife-wielding man was
yesterday jailed for three years and given
12 strokes of the cane after robbing a taxi
driver on Dec 6, last year.
Mohammed Hanafi Mohammed Jabar,
23, boarded Png Yong Kuay’s taxi along Ang
Mo Kio Avenue 6 at around 3am that day.
He told the 48-year-old cabby to drive
him to Yishun Avenue 6. But when he reached
his destination, Hanafi told Mr Png that he
did not have enough money to pay the fare.
He directed the cabby to drive him to
a nearby automated teller machine where
he could withdraw the cash.
Mr Png waited inside his vehicle while
Hanafi went to get the money.
However, the younger man then decided
to rob the taxi driver.
Hanafi returned to the taxi, slipped into
the rear passenger seat and pointed a knife
at Mr Png’s neck, demanding cash.
The driver did as he was told and
Hanafi made off with $290.
Mr Png informed the authorities and
the police arrested Hanafi at his home last
month.

If you think this is bad, wait till the Pinoys start to show their colour.
There are so many Pinoy kids that they seems to be everywhere.
Look at the crime statistics in the Philippines and you will see.
If you do not believe, try to stay in the Pinoyland for one week and walk around the place everyday(not stay in tour bus or hotel only)-guarantee you will be a victim of some crime .
I predict within 10 to 15 years(when these Pinoy kids grow up), crime rate will be very high in Sillipore-this will also be compounded by white collar crimes by PRC's and Indian FTs.
