In Singapore, many of our engineers enter into the financial field to market insurance and financial products. It is wasteful to train them in engineering when they are likely to work in the financial field.

The problem in Singapore is that engineers are paid too low and the financial sector pays too high.
...
After getting a high salary, the financial job require them to meet a sales quota for their financial products; some of which are of bad for retail consumers.

There is something wrong happening here, with our education and employment system

That's why Singapore welcomes all the 'dirty money' with dubious origins... how else are you going to be a financial hub without filthy lucre? ;)

Retarded TKL. This happens all over the world not just in SG. The problem with Engineers in SG is they compete directly with Engineers from MY and Indonesia. If they are too expensive, businesses move to those countries.

These people selling insurance and funds give the word "financial" a bad name.
There is nothing "financial" about selling these products, these bank staff are so bad in it they can only cheat the money of 80 year old aunties who can't understand English. For private banking again what you need is a face and mouth. Former TCS actor James Lye works as private banker... God knows who else.

TKL doesn't know the meaning of market forces.
Silly fella.

This very simple, ask all the engineers resign and go apply for a financial sector job!!! When they cannot find people for engineering.. The pay will increase..
