Chinese actor Yu Menglong has died at the age of 37. Rumours of his death spread after a Weibo post on 11 Sept from a paparazzi went viral, claiming that the actor fell to his death. Yu's management team, on the evening of the same day, confirmed the actor's death in an official statement.
They said, "With unbearable sorrow, we announce that our beloved Menglong fell to his death on Sept 11. Police have ruled out foul play. We hope he rests in peace and his loved ones remain strong."
The now-deleted post claimed that Yu went to his friend's house for a gathering on 10 Sept, and went to sleep in a room at 2am and locked the door behind him.
The post added, "When his friends were leaving the flat this morning at 6am, they couldn't find him and only discovered his body on the ground floor when they left. A resident who was walking their dog contacted the police, who have ruled out the foul play. Investigations are ongoing."
Later in the day, Chinese news outlet Chengdu.cn reported that estate management had confirmed a fatal incident involving a fall from height, although they could not verify the identity of the deceased. The publication stated that when they reached out to local police for further information, they said "specific details cannot be announced to the public yet".
