Tiger CEO Tony Davis has impeccable timing

I wrote the entire story from the time the airline started, the losses, the IPO delays and all the mishaps and how Gerard Ee became chairman last year so that the IPO can be launched without the mess being cleaned up.

Tony is qualified accountant.
Why is that so? Is he part of the screw up?

Btw what is Tony Fernandez's educational qualification?

Tiger airways is a fucked up airline yeah that's right as obvious as daylight. But it's still operational and i bet ppl still fly on that airline.

Tony is an accountant. Davis - o level. I managed to find a cached copy and started a new thread.

Ok his proper name is Tony Fernandes and he graduated from London School of Economics and he is an accountant. An entrepreneur and a musician, his miraculous rise in the aviation industry is surprising, considering his background. Our government scholars with PhD and MBA qualifications, comes home to cushy jobs, but not many are achievers in their field.

In fact those that became MPs, took it upon themselves to scold citizens and tell us we need more FTs to increase our GDP. Then we have right now Tiger Airways that will drag us down and bring shame to the country.

This chap Tony Fernandes is a colourful character... he's good buddies with Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Airlines.. Read recently that he tried unsuccessfully to buy an English Football club... Think it was West Ham United..

Someone to be admired, who single-handedly brought up a fledgeling airline to what is is today. Self-made millionaire ($330 million) and looks set to achieve even more success.

Long ago, Asia Airlines was nothing other than a Taiwanese Company (not an airline), supplying and repairing components, that was what I recalled. In fact it had been in existence before I started in the aviation industry. It had always been in doldrums as far as I know. Tony bought it out and make it what is is today.

He is the irony. Dr Cheong and his team flew to London to court Branson and get 49% of Virgin Atlantic. No dice after negotiations. Finally they found him in a restaurant and made a better offer and succeeded. They came to Singapore and made a song and dance about their coup and the deal done on a napkin.

In the meantime, Tony "the unknown" Fernandez was flying into Changing catching a cab to Suntec to negotiate for landing rights for his fledging airlines. He even offered to join forces. No dice. Tony's problem is that he is no Ang Mo. Even the top brass in SIA , Temasek and CAA snubbed him. Saw him one day standing in the rain to catch a cab.

Ho Ching decided that they will fund 2 airlines and and sponsor a 3rd.

The rest is history. Tony was the runaway success. The ones in Singapore never took off. Virgin Atlantic turned out to be a mistake - no synergy.

Other than AirAsia he's also started a chain of no-frills hotels. he's also into Sports: basketball, football,...

educational qualification ???

if you're a goon.......................you're a goon..................

i've seen and known countless graduates that are plain dumb and incompetent..................

Until today hor, i still wonder why SIA buy 49% stake in virgin atlantic. That was like giving money to Branson and making singkies look like suckers.
Today, that value is worthless, as virgin has not declared any dividend, nor are there any buyers.
As Virgin atlantic is for sale, SIA may as well buy up the whole airline if approved by regulators. By doing this, SIA will be truly global brand, and can fly direct from USA to Australia. That is what they want, isn't it?

Air asia was owned by a mat conglomerate DRB Hicom.
Mat companies in Malaysia cannot survive open competition. They need to have govenrment contracts, otherwise perish.
Only MAT company I know that thrive in market economy is Ramly burger. Their sales reached RM1 billion this year, 30% from export markets.

Possible take over target by either airasia, jetstar or Lion air?
scrap the australian LCC and focus on asia alone?

they first bought Virgin becos they eyeing the lucrative London-NY (transatlantic route). At that time Heathrow was fully packed, they could not get an extra landing slot. neither could they get LON-JFK route. their only route then was via Frankfurt.

those were the pre-crisis days...where trans-atlantic route was profitable. They could not buy more than 49% because any airlines must be majority owned by the local company / local person. Otherwise, they are not allowed to fly in UK. ie. Virgin, being a UK airline must be majority owned by UK company or person.

I believe also, the long craving for Australia-US route has led them to do many money wasting things too..one of which is Ansett.

ya, man! ... stil remember how dey boasted abt it ...

... In the meantime, Tony "the unknown" Fernandez was flying into Changi ...Even the top brass in SIA , Temasek and CAA snubbed him ...
stil remember he said tis @ dat time ... 'the closest I will probably get to Changi is Changi Prison' ...

Here is an interesting question I have been thinking. Its stated by CASA that pilot qualification and airplane maintenance is the reason why the planes are grounded. So where do they hire these pilots then? India? Where did they get the maintenance crew as well? They can't just be importing people from there as well can they ?
