Hong Kong police hunt for ‘golden-dyed hair’ suspect over HK$100,000 Rolex theft

Robber posed as pretend buyer in response to outline advert before running away with timepiece during meet up near Mei Foo MTR Station

The incident took place close to Mei Foo MTR station at private housing estate Mei Foo Sun Chuen, located on Po Lun Street in Lai Chi Kok, police on Friday said.

The victim, a 29-year-old man, was contacted by the bogus buyer in response to his online post offering the watch for sale, with the pair arranging to meet outside the station at around 8pm to complete the transaction, according to the force

“During the inspection of the watch, the ‘buyer’ suddenly fled with the HK$100,000 timepiece,” a police spokesman said.

The surge in the number of theft cases earlier sparked a warning from the Japanese consulate reminding its nationals to remain vigilant, keep an eye on their belongings and avoid using smartphones or listening to music as they walked around.

The consulate on April 13 said at least two of its nationals were robbed earlier this year in Tsim Sha Tsui, a shopping district popular with tourists.

One of the victims had a bag stolen by someone in a passing car.
